Milan Defender Thiago Silva: I Almost Joined Inter
The defender admits he could have played for the Rossoneri’s bitter rivals…
Milan centre-back Thiago Silva has confessed he came close to joining Serie A champions Inter while he was at Brazilian side Fluminense.
“It’s true, Inter wanted me,” he told Tuttosport.
“But things dragged on for too long and nothing came of it. Then Milan came along and I accepted right away.”
The 25-year-old joined Milan last January after the Diavoli paid Fluminense a reported fee of €10 million and has quickly become an indispensable piece in boss Leonardo’s jigsaw puzzle this term.
But Inter resoundingly humiliated Milan 4-0 in the first Derby della Madonnina of the season in Serie A and the defender is now desperate to get revenge on the Cugini when the two sides meet again in January.
He said: “I have an obsession: to defeat Inter so that we erase the memories of that defeat.”
Milan sit in second place in Serie A, seven points adrift of the Beneamata, and pay host to Sampdoria tomorrow afternoon ahead of a crucial Champions League clash with Zurich next week.
