Palermo Chief Maurizio Zamparini Dismisses Relegation Talk

The patron has insisted his side will soon pull away from the relegation zone.

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini refuses to believe that the Rosanero will become engrossed in the fierce battle for survival in Serie A despite picking up only two points from their last four outings.

“It is true we are just five points above the danger zone,” the entrepreneur admitted to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“But we are also four behind Fiorentina and seven adrift of Sampdoria.”

Samp currently occupy the fourth and final Champions League spot in Serie A, which is something ‘Zampa’ still believes in after turning to ex-Lazio boss Delio Rossi in the wake of Walter Zenga’s sacking.

But Rossi’s career on the Sicilians’ bench got off to the worst possible start last weekend as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at Chievo.

“We must start winning again, but there is no hurry,” continued Zamparini.

“To do that we must play with character. I expect the team to come out of this situation. I have the utmost faith in Rossi and in his work. He is experienced and will know how to get the team back on track.”
