Calcio Stat Attack: Lazio Make History For All The Wrong Reasons

Coach Davide Ballardini is reportedly on the verge of being sacked, and with statistics like these it's easy to see why...

Welcome to our statistical round up of the week 14 Serie A action. It was a low scoring round as just 19 goals flew in compared to 31 on the previous matchday. Lazio make history for all the wrong reasons while Milan prove they are better away from home. Inter continue to dominate.

Udinese 2-0 Livorno

Udinese got back to winning ways against relegation strugglers Livorno. Antonio Di Natale scored his 10th of the season as he leads the Capcannoniere charts with Diego Milito of Inter. It was Pasquale Marino’s third consecutive win at the Friuli over the Toscani. The Friulani hadn’t scored in over 272 minutes of Calcio prior to this game. It was Livorno’s third loss in four games. Coach Serse Cosmi has only won once in his nine visits there.

Genoa 3-0 Sampdoria

Gian Piero Gasperini’s men notched up their third win on the bounce at home with a sublime win over city rivals Sampdoria. Goals from Omar Milanetto, Marco Rossi and Raffaele Palladino means the Grifoni have scored a century of goals in the derby della Lanterna. The loss was Luigi Del Neri’s third away. Prior to this game ‘Doria had only conceded once away from home in 22 games.

Atalanta 1-2 Roma

Claudio Ranieri’s side continue their climb up the summit. Mirko Vucinic opened the scoring with his 54th Serie A goal. It was the Lupi’s first win away from home since September 13th. The misery continues for Atalanta though. It was their fifth defeat in six matches on the bounce. Antonio Conte’s side have only won once in their last 12 games at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.

Bari 2-1 Siena

Bari continue to be the revelation in Serie A. Gianpiero Ventura’s side picked up their third consecutive win at the San Nicola. The Galletti have the best joint defence with Inter having conceded 11 goals so far. The one shipped against Siena was the first in 286 minutes at home. Trouble continues for rock-bottom Bianconeri. They have not won a game since August and they have never beaten Bari away in six official games there.

Cagliari 2-0 Juventus

The shock of the round came from Cagliari this weekend as Juventus conceded their fourth goal in two games. After having lost to Bordeaux last week, a reaction was expected from Ciro Ferrara’s side. Instead it was the Isolani who shone. It was a decade ago when Cagliari last beat Juve at the Sant’Elia. Nene grabbed his second consecutive goal, while in-form hitman Alessandro Matri has scored five in as many games. It was Juve’s second consecutive loss after the Champions League flop in France. Ferrara’s men have already lost three in Serie A this term – a record shared with Bari.

Chievo 1-0 Palermo

It was not the best of starts for new Palermo coach Delio Rossi. Chievo returned to winning ways for the first time since September. Andrea Mantovani was the match winner. It was his 200th Serie A game and his second goal this season. The Rosanero boast a poor record against the Veronesi. It was their second consecutive loss to them. Palermo have only won once in their last 12 games against the Gialloblu.

Inter 1-0 Fiorentina

Jose Mourinho’s men continue to dominate affairs in Italy. They are unbeaten at home in 27 matches. It was their eighth win at home to Fiorentina on the bounce. Cesare Prandelli’s men have taken their foot off the pedal as this was their second straight loss after last week’s 3-2 reverse against Parma. Prandelli has lost eight out of 10 games against Inter as Fiorentina coach. 20 of Inter’s 35 points have come at home this term. They have scored 17 and conceded eight at San Siro.

Lazio 0-0 Bologna

Davide Ballardini may be remembered for setting a new club record at Lazio as they are now winless in 12 matches. The last victory was obtained three months ago in week two against Chievo. It has been 20 years since the Aquile drew with Bologna at home. The Rossoblu continue to struggle away from home. Their last win on the road in Serie A came 11 months ago. They have not won against Lazio in Rome since 1997.

Parma 1-1 Napoli

Parma stay fourth  following the home draw with Napoli. It was the first goal conceded at the Ennio Tardini in 334 minutes. Nicola Amoruso scored his 109th Serie A goal. Walter Mazzarri’s side have now drawn all of their last three games. The team is unbeaten in eight matches.

Catania 0-2 Milan

Summer signing Klass-Jan Huntelaar finally got his goal account up and running. His late double strike saw Milan move into second position. Gianluca Atzori’s men struggle. They have only won once in their last 10 matches. For the Rossoneri it was their fourth win on the bounce. Leonardo’s men are true to form and have a habit of leaving it late. Huntelaar’s goals came in the 93rd and 95th minutes. Six, or 30 per cent, of Milan’s total Serie A goals have come during the last 15 minutes of games. Statistically, Milan are better away than they are at home. 15 of the 28 points they have won have been gained on the road. They have scored 11 and conceded seven on the road.
