The Romanian is confident the newly-appointed tactician will turn the tide at the Barbera.

Palermo full-back Cristian Melinte has tipped new boss Delio Rossi to steady the Rosanero ship after an encouraging debut in the Coppa Italia.

The Sicilians went through to the last 16 of the competition this week after taking down Reggina 4-1 in Rossi’s first game in charge after replacing Walter Zenga, who was sacked on Monday following a poor run of results.

“I am sorry for Zenga, but this is life and we look ahead,” Melinte explained to EVZ.ro.

“I have only had three training sessions under Rossi and I have yet to form a real opinion on him. However, I know that he is a very good coach and has plenty of experience.”

Melinte made only his second appearance in all competitions for Palermo against Reggina in midweek, but he insists he is on a learning curve and not overly worried by his lack of playing time.

“I have gone through a settling in period,” he mused.

“I am trying to work hard in training to make myself available to the team. I don’t care about how many minutes I play. What’s important is to be here.”
