Atalanta midfielder and club icon Cristiano Doni has revealed that he was twice close to signing for Roma during his career.

The two teams are facing off against one another this weekend, and the Italian international discussed this possible transfer.

"The first time, I had nothing to do with it [the transfer]," the 36-year-old said to TMW. "I was overlooked by the society.

"The second time, though, I decided myself.

"I love Bergamo too much to leave them again," he summed up.

Doni left the Nerazzurri for Sampdoria, then going to Spanish side Mallorca before returning to the Orobici in 2006.
