Delio Rossi Could Have Arrived In June - Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini
The club patron insists Rossi had been an option the club were considering this summer...
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini opted to replace coach Walter Zenga with Delio Rossi and explained his decision to the press.
"There were some negatives and I did not see any new possibilities [for Zenga]. My decision was quick, because I feared Rossi might choose someone else," he explained to Radio Radio.
Zenga had an inconsistent start to the season at Palermo, with the team lying in mid-table with 17 points from 13 matches.
"Rossi is a tactician with charisma, Zenga is not," continued the outspoken president.
"Palermo could not impose themselves against teams fighting against relegation.
"I yelled at my sporting director [Walter] Sabatini, asking why he recommended Rossi in June, who was a more experienced coach. I decided [on Zenga], because Sabatini did not want to impose a coach that he knew. It would have been interpreted as favourtism.
Sabatini and Rossi worked together at Lazio from 2004 to 2008 and will renew their partnership at Palermo.
