Thiago Silva Applauds ‘Brazilian’ Milan

The centre-back believes Leonardo’s gung-ho tactics can lead the Rossoneri to the Scudetto...

AC Milan central defender Thiago Silva is growing fond of boss Leonardo’s ultra-offensive 4-2-1-3 formation, after the Diavoli edged out Cagliari in a 4-3 thriller on Sunday.

“It’s always pleasing to win, so it’s all good,” he admitted to the Corriere dello Sport.

“We are the most Brazilian team in Europe. I had never played with such system, not even in Brazil.

“It is a little more tiresome, but it’s also fun for the defenders. You have to take care of emergency situations and counter-attacks. You have to decide when to move closer to the midfielders or when to step back towards the goalkeeper.

“I like the fact that everyone pours forward because they trust [Alessandro] Nesta and myself.”

An unwritten rule in Italian football is that the team who concede the fewest goals usually claim the Scudetto at the end of the season. But Silva begs to differ.

“But we can win it in a different way,” insisted the 25-year-old.

“We can do it through a spectacular and offensive play that leaves spaces for the opposition, but also allows us to score plenty of goals.

“On the other hand, Inter concede less because they attack with fewer men,” he stated.

Milan sit third in the standings, seven points adrift of reigning champions Inter.
