Sampdoria have been one of the surprises of the Serie A season. Currently the Doriani are in fourth place in the table with 24 points after an inspired start.
Manager Giuseppe Marotta commented on the team's success this season, happy with their progress thus far.
"We are very happy, 24 points are a lot," he said to Radio Kiss Kiss, "we have the good work of [Luigi] Del Neri to thank for that. Now the week of the derby starts - it's a match that stands on its own."
On the rumours linking him with a move to Napoli, Marotta said: "They're a club that deserves the attention of everyone, but I have a contract with Samp and I'm very happy to stay here. We'll also do all we can to keep [midfielder Daniele] Mannini.
"[Coach Walter] Mazzarri is doing good work considering he stepped in to take over a team that was not moulded in his philosophy."
Sampdoria and Gena kick-off on Saturday at 20:45 CET.
