Siena have officially announced that Alberto Malesani will take over from Marco Baroni as coach of the club, following Marco Giampaolo's dismissal last month. Baroni will return to coaching the youth team.

A brief statement on their official website announced that an agreement has been reached with Malesani for him to take over as coach. He will be presented to the media on Tuesday at 13:00 CET.

Baroni had been placed in temporary charge of the Bianconeri, but the 2-0 defeat at home to Atalanta forced the club to speed up their negotiations. A return for Mario Beretta had been suggested in the press, but the length of his contract was a problem for Siena.

Instead they have chosen Malesani, whose last job was with Empoli in 2007-08. According to Tuttomercatoweb, he has signed a contract until the end of the season with an option for a further year.

Siena are currently in dire straits in Serie A. They are rooted to the bottom of the table, with six points from 13 games. Worryingly, they are already six points from safety and must improve quickly if they are to avoid relegation.
