Walter Zenga has revealed his disappointment after being sacked by Palermo on Monday morning.

The club confirmed they had parted company with the former Catania man following a poor run of results. The 1-1 Derby di Sicilia draw was the final nail in Zenga's coffin. The coach was in no mood to talk, but he did express some emotion.

"I do not want to comment on this right now," Zenga told the press, according to La Repubblica.

"I spoke to the president this morning, but I will not speak with the press until Wednesday."

At the start of the season Zenga claimed that winning the Scudetto was a realistic idea, though his dream quickly turned into a nightmare.

"All the other teams were going up while we were going down for no valid reason. Walter Zenga was not the right coach for Palermo," president Maurizio Zamparini stated.

Former Lazio coach Delio Rossi has been tipped to come in and replace Zenga, something that sporting director Walter Sabatini whispered to the press.

"Sacking Zenga was a tough decision. As for Rossi, he is a serious candidate for the job," Sabatini told Sky Sport Italia.
