Palermo have sacked coach Walter Zenga, the club have announced. And reports suggest former Lazio coach Delio Rossi will take over.

The writing had been on the wall for the former Catania tactician for quite some time and it appears the 1-1 draw with the Etnei has lead to his execution.

A statement on the club's official website reads:

"U.S. Citta di Palermo communicates that first team coach Walter Zenga has been relieved from his duties. The club would like to thank Zenga for his work, and wish him the all the best for the future."

On Sunday night sporting director Walter Sabatini hinted that Zenga was in the last chance saloon. Sky Sport Italia claims club president Maurizio Zamparini called Zenga early this morning to tell him of the decision.

Il Corriere Dello Sport
reports Rossi could be in line to succeed. Former Siena coach Mario Berretta's name has also been thrown into the hat.

Zenga's reign was short in the port-city. He was in charge for just 14 games, 13 in Serie A, 1 in the Coppa Italia.

Palermo are just five points off the relegation zone.
