Juventus midfielder Mohamed Sissoko has strongly reprimanded a group of Bianconeri fans after they marred yesterday’s Serie A win over Udinese at the Olimpico by abusing Inter striker Mario Balotelli.

“I think it doesn’t make sense to boo a team and a player who are not even on the pitch,” he lamented on Sky Sport Italia after the encounter.

“It would be better if they avoided such incidents…”

A section of the Stadio Olimpico crowd aimed some less-than-tasteful insults at the 19-year-old Nerazzurri hitman throughout the game. Among other things, they chanted: “Se saltelli, muore Balotelli (If you hop, Balotelli dies).”

The Olimpico announcer repeatedly tried to end the abuse as the referee could have stopped the match if anything racist had been chanted under new anti-racism rules introduced by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), but it was to no avail.

“I am against any kind of insults,” added Juve boss Ciro Ferrara.

“Be it Balotelli or any other coloured player, our culture is totally wrong. But I am under the impression that this is a tough battle.”
