After watching his Genoa side fall at the death following a late Livorno winner, coach Gian Piero Gasperini was having trouble stomaching defeat as he spoke to SkySport in the post-match interview.

“What didn’t work today is the fact that we conceded a goal right at the end. We had the means to win the game but we were done right at the death,” he declared.

The coach was then probed on whether Raffaele Palladino deserved to start following a top display in the second half. He said, "I think not because [Rodrigo] Palacio played well in the first half.

“We are lucky enough to have players in the squad who can come off the bench and make the difference. It must also be said had Palladino taken all of his chances after the break, we may have even won the game.

“Recently we haven’t been good away from home but this afternoon there was little else we could have done as we looked for victory. There is certainly some bitterness as we return home for what seems like a missed opportunity to push on in the standings.”
