AC Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani has claimed that coach Leonardo deserves most of the credit for the Diavoli’s recent upturn in fortune.

The San Siro outfit have managed four wins and one draw in their last five Serie A outings and have climbed up to third in the table, after the Brazilian switched to an ultra-offensive 4-2-3-1 system.

“Yes, the team play beautifully now, but we must continue down this path,” Galliani told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I gladly compliment Leonardo again for having chosen this new formation that I like to call a 4-2 plus fantasy.

“Milan are making the most of the characteristics of their attacking players.

England boss Fabio Capello lead Milan to four Serie A titles and a Champions League crown during his first stint at the club from 1991 to 1996 and Galliani sees some parallels between the two coaches.

“Leonardo is following in Capello’s footsteps,” explained Galliani.

“They were both directors and the club has decided to gamble on them as debutants, regardless of widespread scepticism.

“I wish for ‘Leo’ to win as much as Capello did and that he will manage Brazil in the future.”
