Inter defender Davide Santon will be out for 40 days, after having surgery to the external meniscus in his right knee.

The hugely promising full-back had sustained an injury during a game against Luxembourg whilst playing for Italy under-21's.

The Nerazzurri have confirmed that the operation was a success, and a statement on the clubs official website reads:

"The operation lasted less than 45 minutes, and it the outcome was perfect. Over the next few days he will begin a rehabilitative programme of recovery. Surgery took place at the San Matteo Polyclinic early this morning and was carried out by professor Franco Benazzo and Inter medical director, professor Franco Combi."

As the recovery period for Santon is over a month, he will miss the crucial matches against Barcelona in the Champions League and Juventus in Serie A.
