Former coach Carlo Mazzone has told the media he believes Roma captain Francesco Totti would be an excellent addition to the Italy squad and is not too old to make a major contribution in South Africa.

"Totti? Francesco at Roma has always been decisive. I don't think in six or seven months he will turn into an old man," he told RadioKissKiss on Wednesday.

Mazzone helped launched the career of 'Er Pupone' as coach of the Giallorossi in the mid-1990s. The veteran Italian boss later made his reputation as a Serie A survival specialist, with successful stints at Bologna, Perugia, and Brescia.

Totti has recently been struggling with an injury, but may make his return against Bari this weekend. He has six goals in seven appearances in Serie A action this campaign.
