Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino is pleased that his club coach Cesare Prandelli is being rumoured to be Marcello Lippi's successor on the bench of the Italian national team.

However, Gilardino is hoping that before Prandelli eventually takes on the job, he would have won a few trophies with the Viola, as he believes that he should stay a bit longer in Florence before he makes the step-up to international football.

"It gives me a very good feeling that they talk about Prandelli to be the new Azzurri's coach," declared the former Parma player to firenzeviola.it.

"Coach Prandelli created something very important in Florence. I think that he still wants to continue for some years at Fiorentina and then we'll see.

"However, first I hope he can win something with Fiorentina."

Fiorentina are currently in fourth place in Serie A with 21 points from 12 games and will be hosting Parma in their upcoming league game on Saturday.
