Abete: No One In The Italian FA Has Spoken To Mauro Zarate Or His Agent
The Argentine-born hitman is unlikely to feature for the Azzurri...
Sergio Zarate claimed his brother is considering featuring for the Italian national team after being continually overlooked by Argentina coach Diego Maradona.
"I don't know anyone who has spoken to Zarate or who told the player's brother-agent this could be a step forward for us," he was quoted as saying by sportal.it.
"I think an accredited person cannot do this without the endorsement of the FIGC. I don't believe it happened, but if it did, whoever spoke about it was doing so on a personal basis."
The 22-year-old was instrumental for Lazio in achieving Coppa Italia success last season, but has been struggling with his club side this season, scoring only twice in 11 appearances.
