Speaking to Marte Sport Live, as reported by TuttoNapoli.net, Lo Monaco stated that the Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis personally asked for the 30-year-old striker, but then nothing eventuated.
"Over the past summer, Mascara was close to wearing the Napoli colours," the Elefanti director said.
"Aurelio De Laurentiis asked me in person, but then nothing more was said."
The Azzurri were able to bring in Fabio Quagliarella from Udinese, to help out in the goal-scoring department, however he is yet to fire at the club.
Napoli and Catania played out a scoreless draw on the weekend, before the international break.
