Barcelona forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic is considering international retirement, says Sweden coach Erik Hamren.

Ibrahimovic was not picked for the international friendly against Italy in Cesena next Wednesday because of an injury. However, his absence from the squad could be a permanent one.

"I spoke to him and he confirmed to me that he has doubts over his future with the national team,” Hamren told Fotbollskanalen.

“I’ve spoken with Zlatan and, until he has made a decision, I won't call him to the squad. You can lead a horse to the water, but he has to drink himself.

"As a manager it is important that players have the motivation to play.

"For me, the most important thing is that you have your heart in what you do.”

Voices claim Sweden's failure to qualify for the World Cup could be behind the player's doubts.

Despite the speculation, 'Ibra' has not spoken publicly about his intentions.
