Napoli Wing-Back Christian Maggio Thrilled With Italy Return
Christian Maggio talked about his first call up to La Nazionale in a year.
After more than a year, Napoli midfielder Christian Maggio has finally made his return to the Italian national team, as coach Marcello Lippi has included the 27-year-old in the squad for the upcoming friendlies against Holland and Sweden.
Since joining Napoli from Sampdoria in the summer of 2008, Maggio initially had some problems, but right now he is a first choice regular in a team that's been rejuvenated since Walter Mazzarri took over as coach recently.
"Football can be magical at times," he said to Napoli's official website, "it's a great moment for me, I thank the club for continuing to support me. I dedicate this to my girlfriend and my family.
"Honestly, I thought I had lost the chance to play for the national team, but I've been working hard for Napoli, I wanted to give an important contribution."
Maggio made his Italy debut on November 19 of last year in a friendly against Greece, although he had already been called up for the qualifiers against Bulgaria and Montenegro in October.
