Inter president Massimo Moratti has shielded his side from Claudio Ranieri's arrows, firing a shot back towards the Roma coach as their off-the-pitch battle takes another twist.

Ranieri claimed the Nerazzurri were a violent side who were out to hurt his players during the 1-1 draw on Sunday night.

Daniele De Rossi left the game with a broken cheekbone following a Patrick Vieira elbow, and the Lupi coach was furious after the game and made his feelings known in front of the cameras.

However, Moratti has responded, claiming Ranieri's assessment of his side was unpleasant.

"I heard what Ranieri said and I think his outburst is a bit strange. His accusation is not nice because he wants to try and describe us as something that we are not," Moratti told the press.

"I don't think we played with spite, and I don't think the result is a bad one seeing how the game developed."

Moratti believes Inter's players suffered fatigue against Roma following their Champions League trip to Dynamo Kiev last week.

"I think there was some tiredness, perhaps for both teams. It was not a great game and we are sorry we didn't win. However we got a point," added Moratti.

"We have not beaten Roma for a while now, but we always seem to come out okay against them."
