Franscesco Totti: No Regrets Over Roma Stay
‘Er Pupone’ has confessed he never had any second thoughts about committing to the Giallorossi for the rest of his life...
Francesco Totti has reportedly penned a new five-year deal to stay at with Roma until June 2014 and the 33-year-old insists he was never tempted to turn his back on his hometown club.
“I have never regretted staying at Roma,” he told Rai Due show ‘Quelli che il calci’.
“I made a choice with my heart. These are my principles, the ones I was born with and the ones I will die with,” he added, dramatically.
Roma have made an indifferent start to the season, but the captain is confident they are capable of reversing their fortunes.
“It’s not a great moment for us,” he mused.
“But it’s in times like this that you can see the character of the players.
“We have a very motivated group and we have what it takes to get back on track.”
Totti has hinted in recent weeks that he could come out of his international retirement to join the Italy squad for next summer’s World Cup finals.
“I will talk with [coach Marcello] Lippi sooner or later,” he said.
“I consider him a great tactician and a great man.
“When I broke my ankle on the eve of the 2006 World Cup he told me 'I will wait for you until the very end'”
