Sampdoria midfielder Angelo Palombo did not look for any excuses, after his side were beaten 2-0 by Cagliari on Sunday afternoon in the 12th matchday of the Italian top flight.

According to Palombo, the Blucerchiati should have been awarded a penalty in the first 45 minutes, but that did not justify their poor performance or the defeat.

"The clear penalty denied to us in the first half is absolutely not an excuse for the defeat," declared the Doriani's captain to tuttocagliari.net.

"This is because we did our best to lose this game.

"I compliment Cagliari who have obtained their fourth consecutive win. The last three games did not go too well for us and I hope that after the break, we can recover."

Sampdoria have slipped down to the fourth place in the table and currently have 21 points from 12 games.

Serie A will resume on Saturday November 21 with Sampdoria hosting Chievo Verona and looking to get back on track.
