Conceding a goal in the opening minute isn't the best way to start a match, but that is exactly what happened to Siena against Genoa on Sunday.
The Bianconeri were already down 1-0 within 40 seconds of the opening kick-off, as Grifoni forward Hernan Crespo put his side ahead.
"We walked onto the pitch with two attacking midfielders and two wingers, hoping to stop Genoa from scoring," Siena coach Marco Baroni told Datasport post-match.
"Unfortunately, the goal we conceded after 40 seconds put an end to that theory."
Baroni praised his players, who did not give up, and still believed in obtaining a positive result, especially in the second half.
He continued, "Conceding a goal like this could have meant that the side capitulated, but the players did well to remain organised, and determined. They believed in a draw, and were able to get themselves into the match.
"The reaction in the second half can be seen as a step in the right direction, especially when we meet teams fighting to avoid relegation."
"The break will allow the team to work better together. We need to concentrate on the opponent, and not just the ball.
"But I am calm, as the players have demonstrated to have the determination, despite being in a tough situation. The best will come out of them soon."
