Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena is hoping to leave the club during the January transfer window in order to secure his place in the Italy World Cup squad.

The former Udinese full-back had been the subject of rumours linking him with a move back to his home country during the summer, though none of the potential transfers came to fruition.

Dossena believes he is still wanted by a handful of Serie A super-powers though, as he looks for regular first team football.

"I know that three big Serie A clubs - Napoli, Juventus and Milan - are looking at me," he told the News of the World.

"In August they just made other choices. I was very close to going to Juventus in the summer but they signed Fabio Grosso.

"I am now worried I will miss the World Cup."

The left-back has featured sparingly for Liverpool since arriving at Anfield in 2008, but has no complaints regarding manager Rafael Benitez or his time spent at the club, admitting he only had himself to blame for not holding down a place in the starting XI.

He added, "I'm not disappointed with the treatment I've had.

"I know how things work and I've always behaved correctly. Benitez chooses the line-up, and I'm paid to respect his choices.

"In truth I am a little bit unhappy with my performances. They have not seen the 'real' Dossena at Anfield."
