Midfielder Alberto Zapater Hails Genoa Enthusiasm
The Spaniard says the mood is excellent in the Grifoni camp, but warns not to underestimate Siena.
Genoa midfield ace Alberto Zapater is confident the Ligurians can build on their last-gasp Europa League win over Lille to resume their march in Serie A after last Sunday’s goalless draw with Palermo.
Bottom side Siena travel to Marassi this afternoon, but the 24-year-old has urged his team-mates not to take anything for granted.
“We must keep our eyes wide open, as the Tuscans can punish their opponents at any moment,” Zapater told the club’s official website.
“We are in good health and there is enthusiasm within our group. Of course, it’s not easy to turn the page all of a sudden. But I must say that the team are now accustomed to playing every three days.”
Genoa defeated French outfit Lille 3-2 on Thursday night with Giuseppe Sculli netting a winner deep into stoppage time, as Argentine hitman Rodrigo Palacio opened his account for the Rossoblu.
“I am happy that Rodrigo scored his first goal in a Genoa shirt,” noted Zapater.
“He will be decisive again very soon. He is a great man on and off the pitch and he was left impressed with the affection of the fans.”
