Inter have wasted no time in responding to UEFA president Michel Platini, who suggested they are a club steeped in debt.

"We will introduce new laws to protect the investments made by Roman Abramovich, Massimo Moratti and Malcolm Glazer. I am sure they want to sell, but who would be stupid enough to buy clubs with so much debt?" Platini told The Daily Telegraph.

His words have not been received with enthusiasm in Milan, and Moratti has responded via a statement on the club's official website.

The note reads, "Inter is not a club in debt. With regard to the declarations of Michel Platini, reported in today's Daily Telegraph and by Italian news agencies, F.C. Internazionale responds with clarity to the UEFA president.

"We understand the institutional worries about the economy of European football, but in citing Inter he forgets that our club does not have debts with the banks. Inter is not among those clubs who, from this point of view, can worry the UEFA president."

Inter clash with Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday in the Champions League.
