John Elkann: Second Place In Serie A Not Enough For Juventus
The Bianconeri patron insists the bar must be set higher this season…
John Elkann has urged Juventus not to rest on their laurels after finally ending their long winless streak in Serie A last weekend.
Juve defeated Siena 1-0, after mustering just three points in their previous four outings, to move to within four points of leaders Inter and the President of Exor, the investment company that controls the club, warned that a runner-up finish is not good enough this season and neither is a last-eight spot in Europe.
“No, because we always have to aim for the top,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“We must not create expectations, but we must believe in it. If you settle for a bronze medal at the Olympics, you’ll always end up behind those who aim for the gold.
“I am not having fun right now. But Juve have exceptional talents and just need to learn how to play together. Fun is still missing.
“We need time, but it’s important to know we have plenty of quality within the team and the desire to do well. We have faith in [coach Ciro] Ferrara and the team we have set up. I am convinced we are on the right path.”
