Roma captain Francesco Totti will have surgery to his right knee later this afternoon, despite conflicting claims earlier this morning.

According to Puntosport.net, the player will have surgery at 17:00 CET after spending most of the day at the Villa Stuart clinic. Just a few hours ago, Totti himself ruled out the need for surgery, but it seems further developments during the afternoon have led the medical team to take action.

Totti was unable to train with the rest of the team this morning and he went to the clinic to speak with professor Mariani soon after.

The report suggests a decision to intervene with surgery was taken this afternoon, coming as a surprise to the player, who claimed he was only at the clinic for a chat with the doctor rather than surgery earlier today.

Totti will spend the night in the clinic and he is likely to be out for at least three weeks where he may miss the clash against Inter on November 18.

Roma have not confirmed any reports regarding Totti's surgery.
