Lazio Coach Davide Ballardini Ponders 3-4-3 Formation Ahead Of Bari Clash
The Aquilotti tactician may look to stick with the system which proved fruitful on Thursday evening against Villarreal...
After having transformed his Lazio side with a positive second half performance against Villarreal, coach Davide Ballardini is weighing up whether to stick with the recent 3-4-3 experiment ahead of Sunday’s encounter with Bari.
“We have many options in defence and playing three at the back is a viable option,” he declared in the pre-match conference to Lazialita.it.
“Against Villarreal things went well, but this is not to say this solution will be utilised tomorrow against Bari.”
The former Palermo coach was then probed as to why he decided to switch to a 3-4-3 during the midweek victory over the Yellow Submarine.
“I have played with three at the back on more than one occasion at a number of former clubs. What is important when using such a system however is that the right balance is found. In this way we can take better advantage of the player’s individual qualities, such as was evident with [Aleksandar] Kolarov and [Stephan] Lichtsteiner.”
After soaking up the criticism in recent weeks, it seems the ‘Professor X’ lookalike has won back the support of the Lazio faithful, as he looks to accommodate Pasquale Foggia and Mauro Zarate without destabilising the balance between defence and attack.
