Fabio Quagliarella has failed to rediscover his best form at Napoli thus far this season, since joining the club from Udinese at the commencement of the summer transfer window.

Despite scoring a respectable three goals in the opening eight matches, Quagliarella has been quite inconsistent at times, which has placed a lot of pressure on his current spot in Marcello Lippi’s Italy squad.

In a recent interview, the 26-year-old expressed his desire to play at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, whilst admitting that he does need to find continuity with the Partenopei in the back half of the season.

“It’s simple for me. If I score a lot of goals on a regular basis with my club Napoli, then I have a greater chance of going to the World Cup,” the striker declared in an interview reported by Corriere dello Sport.

“Of course there is a lot of competition for these places, as there are many good strikers in Italy, so I must be able maintain my consistency.

“At the end of the day, Lippi is the one who will make the final call, so he will choose the 23 he feels are best for the World Cup.”

Quagliarella will be hoping to lead his side to victory this weekend, against the in-form Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi stadium.
