Lavezzi was set to join his team-mates on Friday for the Partenopei's clash with Bologna on Sunday, but is now set to arrive on Saturday morning, only 24 hours before the match.
'El Pocho' and his manager Alejandro Mazzoni are blaming the Argentine Federation for misplacing the travelling documents, whilst the Federation are placing the blame squarely on the player himself, according to TMW.
It will now be up to the new coach Walter Mazzarri to determine whether or not the Argentine international takes his place in the side, for what will be his first match in charge of the club, after taking over from Roberto Donadoni.
Should he be left out of the squad, or on the bench, Denis is in line to replace him in the starting line-up.
A similar issue occurred to Lavezzi's team-mate, Jesús Dátolo, as he also lost his passport whilst on international duty in South America one month ago.
