Former Roma left-back Vincent Candela has commented on the influence of Francesco Totti and his development as a footballer after watching 'Er Pupone' score a brace against Napoli at the weekend.
"Totti is a patron of football, an absolute champion on and off the field. Take, for example, his first goal - perhaps fortuitous, but an action of a pure centre forward," he said in an interview with romagiallorossa.it.
Candela played in Roma's Scudetto winning side of 2001, with both Francesco Totti and Gabriel Batistuta. The current Giallorossi captain reached the Argentine's Serie A scoring record on Sunday, netting his 184th tally in Serie A.
"It was always natural for [Batistuta], while Francesco has only played as a centre forward for four or five years. He was a great No.10 and playmaker, but now is a pure striker," he concluded.
Totti suffered an injury in the weekend's match but is expected to recover in time for a high profile clash with Milan in a fortnight.
