Alessio Secco: Juventus Are Not Diego-Dependent
The young director has dismissed suggestions that the Bianconeri rely too heavily on the influential Brazilian.
Juventus welcomed back Brazilian ace Diego on Sunday after a two-week injury lay-off, and director of sport Alessio Secco has insisted that Ciro Ferrara’s team does not revolve solely around the former Werder Bremen man.
“I think Juve have shown that they are not necessarily Diego-dependent,” Secco told Sky Sport Italia.
“He is a very important player for this side, just like [Alessandro] Del Piero is and [Mohamed] Sissoko will be when he returns to action.
“It’s pretty obvious that when we have the possibility to choose from more alternatives the coach’s job becomes easier.”
Secco had faced a barrage of criticism after taking over from disgraced director Luciano Moggi in the wake of Calciopoli, but he has earned widespread acclaim after last summer’s high-profile transfer campaign.
“I have been constantly under pressure over the past three years and I am now enjoying a little rest: there is always a reward at the end of the run,” he concluded.
Juve threw away two points on Sunday, allowing Bologna to snatch a late equaliser at the Stadio Olimpico.
