Sampdoria temporarily regained top spot in the Italian league last night after defeating Inter 1-0 at Marassi courtesy of a Giampaolo Pazzini strike 18 minutes from time.
“We are currently top of the standings, enthusiasm is sky-high and beating Inter is always a big feat,” Samp President Riccardo Garrone beamed on Sky Sport Italia after the match.
“Our team is made of excellent individuals as well as an overall system of play and [coach Luigi] Delneri deserves credit for it.
“Moreover, we continued the tradition that has seen Inter fail to get a win in Genova in their last ten games. Samp deserved this success and I am proud of the performance of my team.
“We were all worried about this match and were not thinking about a victory, but [Antonio] Cassano saw it right: he said we would win 2-1, so all in all he guessed well…”
The Ligurians will play newly-promoted Parma at home next weekend.
