On Monday the Lega Calcio announced that Inter coach Jose Mourinho would be given a one-match suspension along with a €15,000 fine after protesting against a refereeing decision during the Beneamata's victory over Cagliari.
Nerazzurri president Massimo Moratti has since given his backing to Mourinho, warning officials that they should not confuse the Portuguese tactician's vivacity with aggressive behaviour.
"I was not in Cagliari, so I am not able to judge. But on the basis of what I have been told, Mourinho has surely not insulted the referee and I was not expecting this sort of punishment," the patron told the club's official website, inter.it.
"You can see his excitement and liveliness, but I know him and I can say that he is a man who has a lot of respect for the officials. I've never heard him say anything about the referees.
"I don't wish his lively character to be confused with an aggressive attitude," he concluded.
