Inter Defender Maicon Gets All-Clear For Barcelona Champions League Clash

The Brazilian is expected to resume training today, despite suffering a mild ankle sprain in the win over Parma.

Inter boss Jose Mourinho can breathe a huge sigh of relief as the ankle knock picked up by Brazilian international right-back Maicon will not keep him out of Wednesday’s Champions League tie with Barcelona, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 28-year-old sustained a mild right ankle sprain during the 2-0 home victory over Parma on Sunday, but the Nerazzurri medical staff have given the former Monaco man the green light to resume training with the rest of the squad at Appiano Gentile today.

However, some sections of the press claim this morning that Maicon’s verbal outburst against the Beneamata fans during the weekend’s clash with the Ducali is a real cause for concern.

The defender lashed out at a group of supporters towards the end of the first half after a misplaced pass by Diego Milito had prompted boos from the crowd.

The episode brought back memories of the rude gestures aimed at the Curva Nord by Zlatan Ibrahimovic during last season’s game with Lazio, which effectively spelled the end of his time at the San Siro, and some fear that Maicon is plotting a similar exit.

The defender vociferously asked the club for an improved deal this summer and openly flirted with Real Madrid after some scintillating performances with Brazil at the Confederations Cup in South Africa.
