The new Rossoblu captain has missed out on the first two matches of the season, and is set to return against Chievo when the Serie A recommences.
"I saw a solid Bologna, who is prepared to suffer, who knows what it wants and responds blow by blow," Di Vaio said to Corriere Dello Sport.
"We need to be more fluid and get over any worries when attacking.
"But the foundations that have been laid are better compared to last season.
Speaking on his own fitness, the former Italian international said that he has taken on extra work, and put his heel under stress, to see how it would react.
"I have taken on a bigger load, and then we shall see mid-week how I pull up," he commented.
"I wasn't happy to miss the first games of the season, after preparing all summer.
"But in the last few weeks, every time I put my heel on the floor, it caused some pain."
