Giancarlo Abete: I Am Against Foreign Ownership In Serie A

The Italian football chief has spoken out against foreign ownership in Serie A...

Giancarlo Abete
President of the Italian FA (FIGC) Giancarlo Abete is against the idea of turning Serie A into a playground for wealthy foreign owners. His comments follow reports, which were later denied, that Silvio Berlusconi was ready to sell Milan.

Friday's La Repubblica claimed the Rossoneri's owners were considering selling the club to Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. The report was later refuted by Milan vice president Adriano Galliani and Fininvest - Berlusconi's holding company, which controls the club.

Abete has cast his opinion on foreign ownership in Serie A, and he wants presidents to remain steadfast to their clubs.

"I am with the big Italian families like Moratti, Agnelli and Berlusconi," Abete told the press.

"I do not want to transform Serie A into a league with lots of foreign owners."

Abete's comments come as American businessman Tim Barton awaits his proposed takeover of Bari to be finalised.
