David Beckham has been asked by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to star in a campaign promoting his adopted state, according to The Press Association.

Beckham joins other Hollywood stars such as The West Wing and Brothers And Sisters actor Rob Lowe and Ugly Betty actress Vanessa Williams as ambassadors promoting the delights of California.

The announcement comes despite the Los Angeles Galaxy marquee player saying that he wanted to stay in Italy and play for Milan earlier this year, when on loan to the Rossoneri.

The campaign will see the 34-year-old kick footballs into the ocean for the California Travel and Tourism Commission.
