Claudio Marchisio has been full of praise for Juventus' performance in their 3-1 victory over Roma, a match in which he was forced off with an injury.

The 23-year-old was desperate to find the back of the net to dedicate to his pregnant partner, Roberta, who is due to give birth to their first child today.

Against his will, however, the midfielder could not complete the game due to an injury to his left foot, but he still hopes to link up with the Italian national side this week.

"It hurt in the first half, I clenched my teeth, but in the second half I couldn't do well without holding my boot," Marchisio lamented after the game to the club's official website.

"When I realised I couldn't help the team, I asked for the substitution. I will have a x-ray and an ultrasound scan, because the pain stopped me from being able to run properly and I had some discomfort in my thigh.

"I still hope to link up with the national team," the he admitted.

Marchisio was proud of the way the squad played against a stubborn Roma side, who were finally killed off when Felipe Melo added the third goal in stoppage time.

"I am happy with the result, but also with how we played," he declared. "[My] understanding with Diego is growing, as it is with Tiago or [Mauro] Camoranesi. We are on track.

"[Coach Ciro] Ferrara congratulated us in the dressing room, but he also told us to be more careful, reminding us of the goal we conceded."
