Roma Want Former Celtic Striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink - Agent
The Giallorossi are eager to snap up the Dutchman on a free transfer...
The 30-year-old's contract with Scottish outfit Celtic expired this summer, and the former PSV Eindhoven striker has turned down a number of moves as he waits for the right offer to come in.
According to Romagiallorossa.com, voices in Rome are suggesting that the Lupi's move for Vennegoor of Hesselink is imminent. The Giallorossi attempted to sign Julio Cruz on a free transfer earlier this summer, but were beaten to his signature by city-rivals Lazio.
Vennegoor of Hesselink could be an ideal signing, however, as he stands at the same height as Cruz - at 6ft 3in - and will come at no initial cost.
"Roma? Yes, I've heard something about that," agent Karel Jansen told Tuttomercatoweb.com.
"Personally I have never been contacted by them. Obviously it would be a very nice destination, it is a great club.
"Although the player is free of contractual obligations, and can therefore be registered after the market closes, we want to find him a club quite quickly, because he needs to play."
