Milan are looking to challenge for the Scudetto this season and defender Alessandro Nesta has praised the back-line, in which he will partner Brazilian Thiago Silva.

"Thiago is a very strong defender. He is physically powerful, has a great personality, and is equipped with excellent technical qualities," the player said of his partner in central defence, according to Goal.com Italia.

"The understanding is improving and the Brazilian will help this Milan side towards perfection."

Meanwhile, the 33-year-old, echoing many of his team-mates, found the club's pre-season matches in the United States to be a hindrance.

"The tour in the United States was exhausting," the former Lazio star continued.

"Especially for me, as I returned from a season that was very complex. I needed to train with different methods."

The veteran spent almost the entire 2008-09 campaign on the sidelines, suffering from back and knee problems, but has been one of the Rossoneri's best performers during the pre-season.
