Fiorentina’s Marco Marchionni Undergoes Anti-Juventus Ritual
The midfielder’s ‘Gobbi’ soul has been ‘purified’ by the Gigliati supporters…
Marco Marchionni has officially embraced the Fiorentina credo after undergoing the renowned ‘degobbizzazione’ ritual yesterday.
The 29-year-old joined the Tuscans earlier this month as part of the deal that saw Brazilian international Felipe Melo move to Juventus, whose players and supporters are usually referred to as ‘gobbi’ (hunchbacks) by anti-Juve fans in the peninsula.
There is a long-standing rivalry between Fiorentina and Juve supporters that heats up every time a player ditches the Viola colours for the Bianconeri, or vice-versa, so much so that the Stadio Franchi faithful have come up with a ritual called ‘degobizzazione’.
The fans of the ‘Gruppo Storico’ conducted this ritual after yesterday afternoon’s training session in the presence of coach Cesare Prandelli, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The player was also presented with the fan club’s official membership card, and as a result, Marchionni promised to pay homage to the supporters by celebrating his first goal in a Viola shirt under the Curva Fiesole.
