Roma captain Francesco Totti is one of a handful of one-club players still active in European football, along with his Juventus and Real Madrid counterparts, Alessandro Del Piero and Raul.

Totti will soon sign a new contract with the club that will keep him with the Giallorossi until 2019. Of course, by then he will have quit as a player, but he is set to take a managerial role at the club which has already been agreed on.

The 32-year-old talked about his decision to remain faithful to the club through thick and thin to TG1.

"Roma are a life choice for me," he said. "I think I have earned this new contract on the pitch, for the respect I have always had for the Sensi family, my team-mates, the coach and the fans.

"If I had gone elsewhere I would have won the Ballon d'Or, but I'm happy I stayed because it was a decision of the heart."

On the new Serie A season, Totti said: "Juventus are one of the candidates to win the Scudetto. They have reinforced themselves a lot, they already had a solid group.

"[New Juve coach] Ciro Ferrara? I met him at Capri this summer, he was very charged up. He's motivated, has desire and for the players to have such a young coach is very important."

The Roma captain also admitted Serie A is no longer the top league in Europe.

"Are Italy third best in Europe? I think so, there's always talk of the Premier League or La Liga, they have made the biggest investments."
