Genoa have made it clear that they are in the hunt for a key defender, following their decision to allow Matteo Ferrari to leave the club for Besiktas in Turkey.

There have been several names linked with the Grifoni in recent weeks, including Andrea Esposito from Lecce and Roma’s Christian Panucci, but the latest reports indicate that they could be set to turn their attentions back to a man they were targeting at this time last year.

According to the Inter Channel, the Rossoblu are set to reopen talks with Inter to discuss the future of their defender Nicolas Burdisso, who may be offloaded by the club shortly.

Following the recent signing of the Brazil captain, Lucio, from Bayern Munich, Burdisso will find life at the Nerazzurri extremely difficult this coming season, as he will have to battle the likes of Cristian Chivu, Ivan Cordoba, Walter Samuel, Marco Materazzi and the new signing for a spot in the centre of defence.

The reports go on to suggest that the two clubs involved already have an agreement in place, so it may just be a matter of time before he joins up with the side that will be taking part in the inaugural Europa League this season.
