We Want To Win The Scudetto - Fiorentina Striker Adrian Mutu
Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu doesn't see the need for so much pessimism on the part of the fans, despite the sale of Felipe Melo to Juventus.
Despite their impressive performances over the last few years, Fiorentina's fans are displaying open pessimism regarding next season.
Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo was sold to Juventus, while no big-name players were brought in, except perhaps for Marco Marchionni, the former Juventus winger who arrived in Florence as part of the deal involving Melo.
Viola striker Adrian Mutu thinks the fans' skepticism is unwarranted.
"I think the fans are underestimating this team and I don't understand why," he said during a press conference today, as reported by Goal.com Italia.
"Aside from the names of the singular players, this is a very competitive team, which in the last few years has been able to obtain important results also without Mutu or Melo. This means the team isn't dependent on individual players, and has a strong group.
"I am confident and I think we will battle for a Champions League place once again. The Scudetto? We all want it, but we have to follow the project calmly."
On the captain's armband, which will be worn once again by veteran defender Dario Dainelli, he said, "The role of vice captain has not been assigned yet. I don't think the vice captain is as important as the captain, so I don't see why I should offer myself."
