Maxwell Very Close To Signing For Barcelona - Report
Sky Sport Italia claim that it is virtually a done deal, and that the Brazilian will sign a five-year contract at Camp Nou...
Inter full back Maxwell will sign for Barcelona on a five-year deal, with the transfer very close to completion, according to Sky Sport Italia.
Barcelona have made the purchase of a left back one of their primary objectives this summer, and it seems they have found their man.
Sky Sport Italia says that a deal that will see Maxwell join the Blaugrana is all but complete, with the Brazilian to pen a five-year contract worth €3.7 million a year.
Maxwell is recognised as one of the best left backs in world football, and had developed into a key player at Inter after arriving from Ajax in 2006.
However, he lost his place in the Nerazzurri line-up last season following the emergence of teenage wonderkid Davide Santon, and his frosty relationship with Jose Mourinho always made a sale likely.
With Maxwell's contract at San Siro running out in 2010, it seems Inter have decided to cash in now, rather than lose him on a free next year.
It is unclear yet what the transfer fee will be for the flying wingback, who turns 28 next month.
UPDATE: Barcelona have confirmed on their official website they have reached an agreement in principle with Inter Milan to sign Maxwell for €4,5 million, with the possibility of a €500,000 increase.
The Catalan side state that a deal could be closed in a matter of hours and that Maxwell is expected to sign a three-year contract with the club.
