AC Milan striker Marco Borriello has opted for the number 22 shirt this upcoming season, previously worn by talisman Kaka, who was sold to Real Madrid.

The Italian though, says his reasons for choosing the jersey had nothing to do with his former team-mate.

"This is a gift in my life, for example it is the birthday of my mother and also the number I had in Genoa, a season that gave me great satisfaction," he revealed to Milan Channel on Tuesday.

"I changed from 11 because I did not have a very lucky time last year."

Some have suggested that the former Sampdoria man may feel the burden of wearing the jersey, after the Brazilian had been a star for the club over the past six years.

"The number 22 is a heavy weight [on my shoulders] because of Kaka? These comparisons do not make sense, Kaka is unattainable, we have two different roles. For me, it is a regular number with no other significance."

Borriello only managed ten appearances and two goals last season after a suffering a major injury in October.
